ICAI elects New Torchbearers for 2024-25
The Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) elected its New President and Vice-President for the financial year 2024-25.
CA Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal has been elected as President and CA Charanjot Singh Nanda as Vice-President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, effective February 12, 2024.
CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, a thorough academician with a consistent pursuit of excellence, and a technically affluent professional who has made significant contributions to the cause of the profession has been elected President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for the term 2024–25. CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal has been a practising Chartered Accountant for the past 24 years. He is also a Company Secretary and holds an ICAI DISA. He was elected to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India’s Central Council three times in a row: on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th.
As Chairman of the ICAI Professional Development Committee, established Bank Branch Audit Software as well as conceptualised and implemented UDIN, an ICAI landmark change. He was also the Convenor of the Group formed to execute the UDIN concept in all SAARC countries (Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the Maldives). In 2019, as Chairman of the ICAI’s Ethical Standard Board, he played a key role in delivering the new Code of Ethics after a 10-year break.
He has also served as Chairman of the ICAI’s Committee for Members in Industry and Business, as well as the Tax Audit Quality Review Board, where significant process improvements were accomplished.
He is a regular speaker on topics such as Code of Ethics, Professional Opportunities, and Student Motivation Sessions, and he is also involved in social organisations such as the Lions Club, Barabazar Library, JCI, Friends of Tribal Societies, and Awantika.
Charanjot Singh Nanda is a prominent figure in numerous recognised positions within the area of financial governance and monitoring, thus it is essential to understand his diverse contributions and duties. Nanda, who will serve as a Central Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) from 2022 to 2025, shows a continuous commitment to the profession’s advancement and ideals.
Within the ICAI framework, Nanda’s leadership is most notable as Chairman of the Disciplinary Advisory and Appellate Board (DAAB). In this important job, he supervises the adjudication process, ensuring that ethical standards are respected and disciplinary penalties are given appropriately.
Nanda also serves as Chairman of the Committee on Financial Markets and Investor Protection, where he oversees measures aimed at increasing openness, stability, and investor trust in financial markets. His knowledge in this area strengthens regulatory frameworks and protects investors’ interests.
Nanda also takes over as Chairman of the South Asian Federation of Accountants’ Information Technology (IT) Committee.
In this capacity, he navigates the interface of technology and accounting, advocating for digital innovation, cybersecurity measures, and regulatory compliance across regional boundaries.
Nanda also serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Internal Audit and Management Accounting, where he contributes strategic insights and best practices to improve organisational governance and performance management.
