ICSI issued Warning against Social Media Misconduct by Members and Students

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has issued a warning against Social Media Misconduct by Members and Students.

Institute recently became aware of an upsetting trend among its members and students. Some members of the Institute’s community have used social media platforms to express negative opinions and make disparaging remarks about the Institute. What is particularly troubling is that these comments are frequently made without the necessary effort to establish the accuracy of the information, a lack of due diligence, and without first utilising the Institute’s established remedial mechanisms to address concerns.

Via announcement ICSI said, “It has come to the notice of the Institute that some Members/Students are posting adverse remarks on the social media about the Institute, without ascertaining proper facts, diligence and without availing the remedial measures available for them in the Institute. Some Members and Students have also tagged the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Regulators and other higher forums.”

Posting and circulating such messages and videos on social media constitutes misconduct, and Members/Students who engage in such behaviour may face disciplinary action. The Institute reserves the right to take appropriate action against such Members/Students in accordance with the Company Secretaries Regulations, 1982.

Therefore, Members and Students are hereby advised to follow the above Advisory in true letter and spirit and to desist themselves from such acts.
