Income Tax Authority Accused of Causing Pressure on Confident Group Chairman Who Committed Suicide
The founder and chairman of a confident group in Kerala, CJ Roy, committed suicide days after the Income Tax Department conducted a raid on his offices over alleged assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
CJ Roy shot himself using his licensed firearm at his Bengaluru office. His elder brother has accused the Income Tax Department of creating pressure on Roy, which made him end his life. While speaking to a news channel, Roy's brother questioned the tax authorities about what forced Roy to commit suicide.
He informed the news channel that CJ Roy was under pressure for a few days due to the income tax raids. However, he did not expect that his brother would end his life.
"I don't know how the Income Tax team troubled him. They need to answer what happened that made him take such a step," he said while mourning his brother's death.
His brother said that Roy had a very good bank balance and did not even have any financial debt. As per Roy's brother, the Income Tax Department had conducted a raid on Roy's Bengaluru office on December 3, 2025. He was called back from Dubai, and another raid was conducted on January 28, 2026. The last raid was conducted at the Confident Group offices on Richmond Road.
CJ Roy was well-known for his luxury car collections. However, he always remained attached to his first car, the Maruti-800, which he bought in his early years.
Apart from this, he was also known for helping people in need. During a real estate exhibition, he promised to gift flats to winners from poor backgrounds.
