INCOME TAX BREAKING: Online Filing and Excel Utility for ITR-2 for AY 2026-27 Now Enabled on E-Filing Portal
The Income Tax Department has officially enabled the Excel utility for the ITR-2 form on the e-filing portal for the Assessment Year 2026-27 (Financial Year 2025-26). Taxpayers who use this form for filing their income tax returns (ITRs) can begin preparing for the same online.
The ITR-2 Form is a compulsory form for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who earn their income from sources including salary/pension, house property, capital gains, or other sources (for instance, winnings from lotteries or foreign assets). Those having any income from a business or profession cannot use this form.
Taxpayers can file Form ITR-2 using online mode by first logging into the income tax e-filing portal and filling out the form using pre-filled data and, in the final step, simply submitting the form.
The standard deadline to furnish an income tax return (ITR) for the Assessment Year 2026-27 (Financial Year 2025-26) is usually July 31, 2026. This due date only applies to non-audit taxpayers. Before beginning the return filing process, make sure you check Form 26AS and the Annual Information Statement (AIS) on the portal to ensure all your tax deductions and incomes are accounted for.
Several taxpayers correctly filed their tax returns within the statutory deadline; however, they forgot to verify them. Every taxpayer must be aware that every filed ITR is considered incomplete without e-verification. One can e-verify his/her return using Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or by sending a signed physical copy of the ITR-V to the Centralised Processing Centre (CPC) in Bengaluru within the prescribed time limit.
