Income Tax Department Releases ITR-7 Excel Utility for AY 2026-27 on e-Filing Portal:

The Income Tax Department has released the Excel Utility for ITR-7 for the Assessment Year 2026-27 (Financial Year 2025-26) on the e-filing portal. Consequently, taxpayers who are required to file ITR-7 as per their income sources can begin preparing their Income Tax Return (ITR) filing.

Taxpayers are advised to make sure they use the latest version of the utility and follow the prescribed validation rules before uploading their returns on the Income Tax e-Filing portal.

ITR-7 has been developed for trusts, political parties, research institutions, colleges and universities, who are required to file their return of income under Sections 139(4A), 139(4B), 139(4C), and 139(4D) of the Income Tax Act.

As per the updates, the newly released Excel Utility for the ITR-7 is 5.86 MB in size. It is both; the first and the latest versions of the utility were made available on the e-filing portal on July 09, 2026, indicating that this is the initial version for AY 2026–27.

Along with the Excel Utility, the Tax Department has also released the JSON schema and validations required for filing ITR-7. As per the information available on the income tax portal, the JSON schema is 414 KB, while the validations file is 565 KB. The first and latest versions of both these files were also released on July 09, 2026.

As of now, the income tax department has released Excel utilities for 5 ITR forms, including ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3, ITR-4, and ITR-5; hence, the Excel utility for ITR-6 is still pending release. The following are the release dates for these Excel utilities:

• ITR-2 Excel Utility: May 26, 2026

• ITR-3 Excel Utility: June 19, 2026

• ITR-4 Excel Utility: May 15, 2026

• ITR-5 Excel Utility: July 7, 2026

• ITR-7 Excel Utility: July 10, 2026
