I-T Dept's Automated Reminders Creates Panic Among Taxpayers

Income Tax Dept Sending Emails Having Similar Figures to Several Taxpayers
The Income Tax Department recently sent reminders to the taxpayers about their advance tax liability payable on March 15. Even though these emails are meant to ensure timely compliance, these emails mention the same large figures, like Rs 1.75 crore in business receipts, for people who do not even have businesses.
An Indian journalist, Sucheta Dalal, warned that such messages could create panic among the taxpayers. In a post shared on Platform X, she tagged the Income Tax Department along with Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, saying that these careless reminders triggered by an AI-based automated system will give people anxiety.
Experts have advised the taxpayers not to panic and instead check the details directly through the Compliance section on the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal. Also, taxpayers are advised to pay advance tax only if they really have a liability.
