Income Tax raid at Rice Mill of Bengal MLA Tanmoy Ghosh
The Income Tax officials left the rice mill of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician Tanmoy Ghosh in Bengal's Bankura district on Friday afternoon, over 52 hours after they began searching on November 8.
The Income tax officers, joined by a central armed police presence, sealed the gates of Sibani Rice Mill in Bishnupur, Ghosh's constituency, and did not allow any employees to leave or access the premises for the following 52 hours.
According to a Bankura district police officer, the tax officers also stayed inside the premises and brought in blankets and food.
According to an income tax official in Kolkata, Ghosh is being investigated on suspicion of being a beneficiary of the suspected irregularities in the public distribution system. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has detained Bengal Minister Jyoti Priya Mallick and Bakibur Rahaman, a rice mill owner, and hotelier, in this connection.
Ghosh's other enterprises, including a booze store, are also being scrutinised.
