IT Department Issues Tax Notice of Rs. 158 Crore to Swiggy
Swiggy, which is a Bengaluru-headquartered food and grocery delivery company, has received a tax notice from the Income Tax (IT) department for unpaid dues of Rs. 158.25 crore. According to the tax authorities, Swiggy has not paid the mentioned amount of tax that it owes.
Swiggy received this notice on Tuesday, and it disclosed this information through a late exchange filing. The order dated March 29, 2025, was issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Income-tax, Bangalore
The Rs. 158.25 crore tax demand issued to Swiggy is related to the financial year April 2021 to March 2022. According to the notice, Swiggy did not pay tax on cancellation charges paid to merchants and the interest income on income tax refund.
Swiggy has disagreed with the tax demand and believes it has strong arguments to challenge the order. The company is taking the necessary legal steps to protect its rights by review or appeal. Additionally, Swiggy believes that this tax demand will not have a negative impact on its financial position.
