ITR Filing Disrupted: AIS and TIS Access Issues Frustrate Taxpayers During Peak Season The Income Tax Portal has not been actively working for the past few days. Recently, numerous taxpayers and chartered accountants (CAs) have reported technical issues in the Income Tax Portal because of which they are facing issues with their returns, specifically with accessing and downloading AIS (Annual Information Statement) and TIS (Taxpayer Information Summary). These two are the crucial documents mandatorily required for ITR filing; they provide the income tax department with a comprehensive view of the taxpayer's financial activities and income details.

According to several tax professionals, this issue in the Income Tax Department was noticed to begin around 11 AM and has been continuing throughout the day. Meaning, for a long time, taxpayers have been unable to view or download their AIS/TIS, which is delaying their ITR filing process. Till now, the exact reason behind this issue has not been officially confirmed; it seems like it is either a capacity issue (meaning a large number of users may be trying to access the system at the same time) or a technical glitch (meaning there may be an error in the system). This is a huge, frustrating situation for the taxpayers right now, as it is the peak of return filing season, when numerous taxpayers are trying to get rid of filing their return before the due date to avoid legal actions such as imposition of penalties and issuance of notices. Many of the chartered accountants have shared this issue on the platform 'X,' including CA Chirag Chauhan, CA Harshit Goyal, CA Sumit Sharma, and others. The Income Tax Department has not officially confirmed the issue yet. Hence, taxpayers are confused about whether the messages nowadays circulating on social media platforms regarding the income tax portal issue are real or fake.

CA Chirag Chauhan wrote on platform 'X,' "Taxpayers & professionals are currently unable to access AIS & TIS on the IT portal today, experiencing capacity issues or a technical glitch. @IncomeTaxIndia should communicate via Twitter to inform users about the error and provide an estimated timeline for when it will be resolved." Another chartered accountant, CA Harshit Goyal, wrote, "AIS portal is down again… Guess the Income Tax Department (@IncomeTaxIndia) just wants us to practice patience as a life skill."
