JEE Advanced 2025: Number of JEE Advanced Attempts Increased to 3, Check Eligibility Criteria and Other Details

JEE Advanced 2025: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will this year conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025. The institute has released the JEE advanced 2025 eligibility criteria, and some significant changes in the eligibility criteria have been noticed this year. As per the recent reports, the number of attempts for the exam has been increased to 3 times which was earlier only twice.

Candidates can access the JEE Advanced 2025 eligibility criteria at the official website, jeeadv.ac.in. For the Indian candidates, the eligibilty criteria are based on five factors: Candidate’s performance in JEE Mains 2025, Age Limit, Number of Attempts done till now, Peresece in Class 12th examination, Studied at IITs in past (To get complete information regarding the eligibilty criteria refer to the below sections).

JEE Advanced 2025: Eligibilty Criteria

  • Performance in JEE Mains 2024: Candidates must have ranked among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates to be called eligible for the JEE Advanced 2025 including all the categories. Among this 10 per cent contribution is being given to the general EWS category, 27 per cent to OBC-NCL, 15 per cent to the SC category, 7.5 per cent to the ST category and the remaining 40.5 per cent contribution to candidates with open category. In every category 5 per cent reservation is been awarded to the candidates with the PwD category.
  • Category-wise distribution of candidates: There are a total of 1,01,250 candidates are from the open category, 25,000 candidates from the General-EWS category, 67,500 from the OBC-NCL category, 37,500 candidates from the SC category and 18,750 candidates from the ST category. The number of candidates may be increased from 2,50,000 in case of candidates get the same scores/ranks.
  • Age Limit: Candidates applying for JEE Advanced 2025, must be born after October 1, 2000. Candidates are also been awarded an age relaxation of 5 years if belong to the SC/ST/PwD category (Means must be born after October 1, 1995).
  • Number of Attempts: In accordance with the JEE Advanced 2025 eligibility criteria released recently, candidates can attempt the JEE Advanced exam 3 times in consecutive three years.
  • Appearance in Class 12 (or equivalent) examination: Candidates to be called eligible for the JEE Advanced 2025, must have appeared for the Class 12th or equivalent examination in the year 2023 or 2024 or 2025 for the first time with subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects. Candidates who appeared for the class 12th or equivalent examination in the year 2022 or earlier are not eligible to appear in the JEE Advanced 2025.
  • Studied at IITs in past: Candidates must not have studied in any IIT with any academic program under JoSAA business rules of 2024. Candidates are not eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025 whose admission in IITs was cancelled after admission into any of the IITs. However, the candidates who have been admitted into any preparatory course in the IITs in the year 2024 for the first time are also eligible for the JEE Advance 2025.
