Lokayukta police have arrested a Central GST official, along with his agent, in a bribery case. According to the police, the accused is alleged to have demanded Rs 8 lakh through an intermediary.

The accused GST official and the agent have been identified as Mohit Pratap Singh and Salman Sheikh, respectively.

According to the investigation, the accused GST official had demanded a bribe amounting to Rs 20 lakh from the complainant, who runs a business dealing with iron materials, in return for closing a case registered against him.

According to the police of Lokayukta, "the complaint made against the businessman for evading tax was a false complaint. To close it, Singh demanded Rs 20 lakhs and finally agreed to Rs eight lakhs from the businessman. Singh was trapped inside his office with the cash."
