New Grading System: High School Leaving Certificate Examination Introduced by State Government
The Manipur Education-School Department has introduced a new grading system, set to take effect in the year 2024 for HSLC exams. In a bid to revolutionize the assessment structure and alleviate academic stress, the Manipur Education-School Department has unveiled a pioneering grading system set to debut in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination 2024. Collaborating with the Board of Secondary Education, this initiative marks a significant departure from the traditional method of mark-based evaluation.
The newly introduced grading system will redefine how students’ performances are evaluated, focusing on holistic growth and minimizing undue pressure. Instead of conventional marks, students will now receive grades and corresponding grade points. Notably, the grading system omits the display of total marks and eliminates division or rank awards, streamlining the academic evaluation process.
Under this progressive framework, Grades and corresponding grade points will be assigned as follows:
Importantly, while the internal assessment and external examination parameters remain intact, with the latter constituting 80 marks, the grading system promises a fair and unbiased evaluation mechanism.
This transformative endeavour underscores the Manipur Government’s unwavering commitment to fostering a nurturing and equitable learning environment. By prioritizing students’ well-being and holistic development over rigid academic competition, this initiative seeks to cultivate a culture of learning that values individual growth and collective progress.
