No Documents Needed: Change Your EPF Name Easily with Aadhaar-Linked UAN

The EPFO or Employees Provident Fund Organization, simplified the procedure of updating member profile information. Update has now become possible for Aadhaar-verified UAN holder members with or without submitting papers.

What is UAN (Universal Account Number)?

UAN (Universal Account Number) is given by the EPFO. It works like a single ID that links multiple Member IDs assigned to a person by different employers.

Earlier, updating these details was a complicated and long process that had to go through employers. Now, employer certification is only needed in certain cases if the UAN was issued before October 1, 2017.
Earlier, changes had to be verified by the employer, which could take up to 28 days. Now, 45% of requests can be approved by members themselves, while 50% only need employer approval, without any involvement from EPFO.

It is important for members to link their Aadhaar and PAN with their EPF account because this is compulsory for any withdrawal and updates. If there are differences between your EPF details and Aadhaar, it could delay approval. Updates can take a few weeks, depending on how quickly your employer and EPFO process them.

As per the revised process, members with a UAN already verified through Aadhaar can easily update their personal details on the EPFO portal.

Easy Steps to Update Your EPF Account Details:

Step 1. Log in to the EPF Member Portal, and visit https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/.

Step 2. Enter your UAN password and captcha, and click login.

Step 3. After logging in, find and click on the ‘Manage’ tab in the top menu.

Step 4. Choose the ‘Modify Basic Details’ option if you want to update your name, date of birth, or gender.

Step 5. Fill in the accurate details based on your Aadhaar card and verify that they are reflected in your EPF details. Then submit the request.
