NSE Delays Plans to Change Weekly F&O Expiry to Monday

Why is NSE Delaying its Decision on Weekly Expiry?

The postponement decision has been taken with regard to SEBI’s consultation paper issued on March 27, 2025, regarding the Final Settlement Day (Expiry Day) for Equity Derivatives.

What Did the SEBI Review Paper Highlight?

SEBI’s consultation paper, released on March 27, suggests that all equity derivative contracts should expire only on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Additionally, it requires exchanges to get SEBI’s approval before making any changes to the contract expiry or settlement dates.

What Was NSE’s Now Delayed Plan?

Currently, all NSE contracts expire on Thursdays, while BSE has its weekly Futures and Options expiry on Tuesdays, which was previously on Fridays.

In March, the NSE said that starting April 4, 2025, the expiry date for Nifty index weekly derivative contracts will shift from Thursdays to Mondays. This will also be true for Nifty’s monthly, quarterly, and half-yearly contracts.
