NTPC Limited to Challenge Rs. 19.96 Crore GST Demand Order; Says No Impact on Operations
NTPC Limited has issued a regulatory filing dated February 27, 2026, addressed to the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), regarding the receipt of an order no. 57/GST/ADC/2025-26, dated February 27, 2026, passed by the Additional Commissioner CGST & Central Excise Patna-1. The order pertained to the financial years 2019-20 and 2020-21.
The said order imposed a total demand amounting to Rs. 19.96 crore (including a tax of Rs. 9.98 crore and a penalty of Rs. 9.98 crore) on the company under Section 74 of the CGST Act 2017 and the Bihar GST Act 2017, on the grounds of ITC reversal in respect of credit notes, whereas ITC was not claimed. As per disclosure, the company received the order on the same date of its issuance, i.e., on February 27, 2026, at 04:15 PM.
The company is not satisfied with the order and has planned to challenge the same before the First Appellate Authority, CGST (Appeals), Patna, within the prescribed time limit. The company has further clarified that the issuance of the aforementioned order does not impact its financial, operational, or other activities. The company has made the present disclosure under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations 2015.
