Pahalgam Terror Attack: India Stops All Imports from Pakistan Immediately The Indian government has banned all imports from Pakistan after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which killed 26 people, maximum of them were tourists. In accordance with the notification issued by ministry of commerce, a provision relating to it has recently been added to Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, in order to stop direct or indirect import or transit of all goods developing in or exporting from pakistan. Immediate orders have been passed on for implementation. The notification is given below for reference: The government has banned imports from Pakistan for reasons of national security and public interest, according to a notice from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). Any exception to this ban will need special permission from the government. A new rule titled "Prohibition on Import from Pakistan" has been added to India’s Foreign Trade Policy (FTP). It says that no goods, whether directly or indirectly, from Pakistan can be brought into India, even if those goods are usually allowed. This ban takes effect immediately and will stay in place until further notice. The decision comes after a deadly terrorist attack on April 22 in Baisaran Valley, near Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, where 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed. In response to the attack, India has taken several strong diplomatic steps:
  • Suspended visa-free travel for Pakistani citizens under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme.
  • Expelled Pakistani military officers posted in India.
  • Suspended the Indus Water Treaty signed in 1960.
  • Closed the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, which was the main trade point between the two countries.
The Attari-Wagah border, the only trade route between India and Pakistan, has also been shut. At a recent high-level meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told top defense officials that the Indian armed forces have full freedom to choose how, when, and where to respond to the terrorist attack.
