Course Duration and Time Commitment

The path to becoming a CA generally ranges from 4.5 to 5.5 years, provided each exam is passed in the first sitting. In case of delays or failure, the path can stretch up to 7 years or more.

Four Phases of the CA Course

1. CA Foundation (4–6 Months)

• Registration begins post-Class 12
• Requires 4 months of preparation
• Examinations are held in May or November

2. CA Intermediate (9–12 Months)

• Registration after clearing Foundation
• Study for at least 8 months
• Clearing both groups at the same time saves time

3. Articleship (3 Years)

• Begins after clearing Intermediate
• Practical training for 3 years is involved
• CA Final preparation also happens in this phase

4. CA Final (6–12 Months)

• Can be attempted in the last 6 months of Articleship
• Results and the membership process take another 1–2 months

Starting the CA Journey

Candidates have to register for the CA Foundation exam on the ICAI official website. The registration cost is approximately Rs. 9,200. The Foundation exam consists of four papers:

• Accounting
• Business Laws
• Mathematics and Logical Reasoning
• Business Economics

Better Preparation Tips

• Utilise the ICAI study materials fully.
• Coach yourself if necessary or study by yourself regularly.
• Study 6–8 hours a day.
• Practice mock tests, particularly for objective-type questions.

• The coaching fee ranges from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 50,000 annually.
• The examination and registration fee of ICAI is additional.

Final Preparation Plan

• Minimum of 40% marks in every paper and 50% in total is the bare minimum to pass.
