In this ITR filing season for Assessment Year (AY) 2026-27, a post is going viral on social media where a Chartered Accountant (CA) from Pune has earned about Rs 12 lakh by merely filing ITRs this season, and he serves around 400 clients.

The post emphasises how much the earning potential of a chartered accountant increases during tax filing season. This story has been shared by one of the CA's friends named Paritsh Sharma on his Twitter (platform 'X') handle.

He says that his friend is a Chartered Accountant in Pune, and he had just started his practice three years ago. Today, he has approximately 400 clients. He charges Rs 3,000 per return during the tax filing season. This season, he has earned about Rs 12 lakh merely by filing an ITR in just a few days. To manage the workload, he has even hired two interns.

In his post, Paritsh Sharrma stated that "A friend of mine in Pune is a CA who helps people in his network file their ITRs. He started just three years ago. Today, he has around 400 clients.

He charges ₹3,000 per client during the ITR season, making around ₹12 lakh in just a few days. He has even hired two interns to handle the workload.

As his network grew, clients also started approaching him for business registrations, accounting, and other compliance work. Today, he's making more from his practice than from his full time job.

Crazy how much money a skill can make when combined with trust and a strong network."

Several individuals have given their views on his post. A user named Kanan Bahl has stated that "There are hardly any people who pay ₹3,000 for a simple ITR.

People having RSUs, heavy capital gains or NRIs only pay ₹3,000 or more per ITR.

So the example you're giving is an anomaly.

15-20 years back, yes, CAs used to make very good money doing practice but with the onslaught of technology and increasing number of CAs passing out each year, the opportunity of doing traditional CA practice is no longer lucrative."

The second user stated, "What about mental health ?

You need to pick calls 24×7, no one listens to your intern everyone wants to speak with you only.

Job with flexible hours much better than practice unless you are passionate about it."

The third user commented, "You think all those 400 will pay on time? Or rather all will pay at all?"
