Punjab Govt Attaches 136 Properties Worth Rs. 91 Crore; Strict Action Against GST Defaulters The Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, takes serious legal action against GST defaulters. In the context of the same, the government has attached 136 properties worth Rs. 91.10 crore in order to recover pending GST liabilities. The Punjab Finance Minister said that the government is maintaining balance between business facilitation and tax enforcement with strict rules. Further said, "136 properties worth Rs 91.10 crore have been attached to recover pending pre-GST dues. Of these, properties worth Rs 15.27 crore have already been auctioned, while several others are in the process of sale after official approval."

As per the details available officially, 78 properties of about Rs. 50.58 crore are majorly located in the main districts of the state, and 58 properties of about Rs. 40.52 crore are located in the rest of the districts, states, or Union Territories. The government said that properties worth Rs 15.27 crore have already been sold out through auction, leading to the recovery of tax dues. Further, approval has been given to auction 35 more properties valued at Rs 33.77 crore. Auction dates have been set for 21 of these properties, which are valued at approximately Rs. 13.68 crore. The action has already been started for 15 properties valued at Rs. 16.42 crore. Also, at the Deputy Commissioner level, recovery certificates have been issued for 24 properties worth Rs. 10.61 crore.

Through the extended One-Time Settlement OTS scheme, the Finance Minister has given the opportunity to clear pending liabilities. This chance has been addressed as a “golden opportunity” for businesses to clear their long-pending GST dues. The government has also warned taxpayers that tax evasion done intentionally will not be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against tax defaulters.
