Punjab Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan Flag Errors in NCERT Punjabi Textbook, Immediate Review Demanded
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan wrote to the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan pointing towards numerous mistakes in the Punjabi textbooks published by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). In this letter, he discussed some spelling mistakes made in textbooks and also some factual inaccuracies, especially in the book 'Punjabi Primer'. This book is developed for Balvatika/Anganwadi-level students and also for adult literacy programmes.
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan wrote in his statement, that these mistakes not only misguide young learners but also undermine the effectiveness of literacy initiatives for adults.
In his letter, he concentrated attention on the importance of good educational material. In particular, educational learning books are important to maintain the highest standards of accuracy and authenticity in students.
Kultar Singh Sandhwan requested an immediate review and revision of these textbooks by some qualified Punjabi linguistic experts and scholars to ensure the content was correct and reliable.
He also demanded a strict editorial and quality-checking procedure for upcoming publications of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for better learning of students.
He said the publication of error-free learning materials is essential for the success of foundational education and literacy programmes.
Overall in his letter, he discussed why it is imporant to publish educational textbooks correctly?, how mistakes in education textbooks affect the future of a child?, and what means should NCERT implement for the correct publication of textbooks.
