RCCPL Receives Demand cum SCN Over Reflecting Negative Balance in Table 8D of GSTR-9 for FY 2020-21 and 2022-23:

Company Faces SCN for Wrongful Availment of ITC

Birla Corporation Limited has informed the stock exchange that its wholly owned material subsidiary, RCCPL Private Limited (RCCPL), has received a demand cum show cause notice (SCN) from the Joint Commissioner, Central Goods & Service Tax & Central Excise, Nagpur-I Commissionerate, for the financial years 2020-21 and 2022-23.
The RCCPL had received the notice on August 11, 2026, at around 12.57 p.m. (IST). The notice has been issued under Section 74(1) of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, and the Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, read with Section 20 of the Integrated Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, on account of alleged wrongful availment of Input Tax Credit (ITC) by the company, in violation of Section 16(2) of the CGST Act, 2017.
According to the concerned tax authorities, the company had reflected a negative balance in Table 8D of GSTR-9 for the financial years 2020-21 and 2022-23, involving an amount of Rs 10.30 crore along with an equivalent penalty and applicable interest.
RCCPL has clarified that the present action does not have any impact on its financial, operational, and business activities. The company has stated that "the aforesaid Demand-cum-Show Cause Notice has no merits and is not maintainable, being based merely on the differential Input Tax Credit reflected in Table 8D of GSTR-9. RCCPL has received a favourable order in a similar matter and is in the process of submitting its reply within the prescribed time period."
Birla Corporation Limited has disclosed the aforementioned information vide an Intimation dated August 12, 2026, issued under Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, addressed to the Bombay Stock Exchange Limited (BSE) and National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE).
