RTCA Files PIL in Rajasthan High Court for Extension of Tax Audit Due Date
The Rajasthan Tax Consultants Association (RTCA) has recently filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Rajasthan High Court, Jaipur, requesting an extension of the Tax Audit Report (TAR) due date for the assessment year 2025-26. A PIL is a legal action filed in court to protect and enforce the rights of the general public.
This step comes after many tax professionals and taxpayers have raised concerns about the short time period to file TAR, and on top of that, the income tax portal glitches a lot. With the current due dates for filing the tax audit report, it is difficult for taxpayers and professionals to ensure timely compliance. Over the past few days, many CA associations and tax bodies have submitted representations to the government, citing the portal glitches and overlapping compliances. Apart from this, the festive season, like Navratri, has also reduced the effective working days for professionals.
Therefore, RTCA, in the interest of its members and the taxpayers, has filed the writ petition requesting the court to allow more time for Tax Audit Report Filing.
If the court gives extra time, the same would benefit the taxpayers, as they will be able to comply without being penalised for the difficulties that are out of their control. It will ensure accurate and stress-free filing.
