SEBI Study Reveals Rs 1 Lakh Crore F&O Trading Losses in FY 2025

The individual investors trading the futures and options (F&O) in India have incurred net losses of Rs 1,05,603 crore in the Financial Year 2025, as per a SEBI Study titled ‘Comparative study of growth in Equity Derivatives Segment vis-à-vis Cash Market’. The number of investors trading in F&O in the financial year 2025 stood at 1.05 crore. However, this number dropped to only 75.42 lakh in FY 2026 (up to December 20, 2025).

Online gaming platforms and fantasy trading apps can no longer access real-time market data. Additionally, the SEBI has warned the Investors regarding the unregistered trading apps.

The SEBI has also ordered the stock brokers to show the prescribed risk disclosures, covering at least 50% of the screen, when clients log in. They must give the data on the incidence losses in F&O trading acknowledged by the clients.
