Mahindra and Mahindra Limited said on Saturday that state tax authorities in Tamil Nadu had begun an inspection of documents at one of its Chennai business offices.

Mahindra and Mahindra said in a regulatory filing, “Authorisation for inspection/search proceedings under CGST Act 2017 was issued by Additional Commissioner (ST), Intelligence-I (FAC), Chennai-6 on the Company.”

Subsequently, the State Tax Officer, Gr-I, Intelligence – I, Chennai – 6, conducted an inspection of the records at one of the company’s business locations in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, it stated.

The permission for inspection/search proceedings, dated December 26, 2024, was presented to the company’s authorities on December 27, 2024, at approximately 12.15 p.m., it added.

“The GST officials examined the records and given some observations on certain GST compliance issues and have advised the company’s officials to submit the necessary documents for reconciliation,” according to the statement.

During the proceedings, the officers sought data relating to transactions involving the supply of goods or services, such as reverse charge payments and input tax credit claims made by the company for a given period.

The company executives worked with the GST officials and responded to all of their clarifications and specifics, Mahindra and Mahindra stated, adding that it will provide all of the extra documentation requested in due course.

This has not had an influence on the company’s operations, which are operating as usual, it added.

On the basis of the preliminary assessment, the company does not reasonably expect the outcome of the proceedings to have any material impact on the company, it stated, adding that it has “always retained high standards with respect to compliance with all laws and regulations, including timely payment of applicable taxes.”
