Taxpayers and Professionals Request CBDT for Extension of ITR and Tax Audit Due Dates for FY 2024-25
Many Taxpayers, companies and professionals are requesting the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the due dates for filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) and Tax Audit Reports for the Assessment year 2025-26. While the Income Tax portal has improved a lot, the taxpayers, chartered accountants and other stakeholders are still facing some issues in the timely filing of ITR and Tax Audit Reports for FY 2024-25.
The ITR utilities, which were supposed to be released in April, like every year, were released with a delay of almost three months for the FY 2024-25. The revised Due Date of filing the Income Tax Return for the Non-Audit Cases is 15th September 2025, while for audit cases, the latest due date is 31st October 2025. For the Tax Audit Report, the due date is 30th September. Tax professionals have only a few weeks left before the due date. They are saying that they do not have enough time to collect data, check accuracy, and file returns. There are also internet connection issues in remote areas, as well as in large cities. On top of that, due to festival holidays, it has become harder for tax professionals and businesses to meet deadlines.
Therefore, due to all these issues, the taxpayers and tax professionals are requesting to extend the due date for filing ITR and audit reports so that they can have sufficient time to ensure compliance.
