The National Institute of Technology in Tiruchirappalli, founded in 1964, is a government-run institution for higher education and advanced research, mostly in engineering and technology. It began as the Regional Engineering College and is one of the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) system’s oldest institutions. It was given its current title in 2002 and is known as NIT Trichy.
The UGC has accredited the Institute, and the All India Council for Technical Education has granted its affiliation. It has been designated as a national institution by the Central Government. Engineering, Management, Humanities, and Architecture are among the 17 departments that provide undergraduate and graduate programmes.

The National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (NIT Rourkela or NITR), originally the Regional Engineering College, Rourkela, is a publicly sponsored engineering, science, and technology institution in Rourkela, Odisha, India. Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur (MNIT or NIT Jaipur) is a government engineering college in India that focuses on science, engineering, and management. It changed its name to Malaviya Regional Engineering College (MREC) Jaipur in 2002 and was designated as an Institute of National Importance in 2007. It began in 1963 with only two engineering branches and has since grown to include fourteen departments, a management school, and allied centres.
According to NIT Statutes, the Institute is wholly supported by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) of the Government of India and is administered by a Senate. NBA has certified NIT Jaipur, ranked 37th for B-Tech by NIRF 2021. Notable alumi are Namita Mittal, Gazal Dahiwala, Shivangi Singh and many more.
Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad (MNNIT or NIT Allahabad), formerly Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College (MNREC), is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located in Allahabad (Prayagraj). It is one top NITs in India, that is classified as an Institute of National Importance, like the others.
In 1976-77, the college made history by being the first in the US to offer an undergraduate curriculum in computer science and engineering. In 2020, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) placed MNNIT 48th among engineering colleges and 93rd overall.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Human Resources stated that the National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra (NIT) was placed 8th out of 31 NITs in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)-2020. The Institute is ranked 40th overall among engineering schools.
