Government Medical College and Hospital

Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh was established in the year 1991 and the foundation stone was laid by the former Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Chandra Shekhar. The institute is also known as GMCH. In the year 1991, the institute was granted provisional affiliation by the Panjab University and later on in the year 1999, it got permanent affiliation. Sh. Baleshwar Rai, the then Adviser to the Administrator of Chandigarh inaugurated the very first academic session of GMCH in the year 1991. Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses to the students. The institute has secured 29th rank in the Medical category in the NIRF 2021 Ranking with an overall score of 51.9 out of 100. It had secured 25th rank in the same category in NIRF 2020 Rankings.

Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh is a public university established in the year 1962. The university is recognised as an Institute of National Importance by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, and Government of India. It is also known as PGIMER Chandigarh. The varsity has got 2nd position in NIRF Medical Ranking 2021. Its campus covers an area of 277 acres and there are a total of 581 faculty members at the university. Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital was established under the aegis of Panjab University in 2006 in Chandigarh. To impart education in the field of Oral Health, the institute offers BDS and MDS. It has 18 departments and nine dental and nine medical laboratories.
