UGC Eliminated Sangai International University Manipur: University De-listed from Manipur’s Recognized Universities
UGC Eliminated Sangai International University Manipur: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notice awaring the forthcoming understudies and their parents that Sangai International University, Churachandpur, Manipur, has been eliminated from the list of the UGC’s most recognised Universities, as per the latest news. Official Notice issued by UGC prompts understudies not to sign up for any of the programmes or courses presented by Sangai University, Manipur, as it is currently prohibited to offer any UGC-specified undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), or PhD degrees.
Looking at the Past Years Data, So Sangai International University was established as a state-run private university and founded by the Manipur Government. The name of the University was added to the UGC’s Universities List in June 2015. As per UGC, the University has been asked to provide the fundamental data for examination through various official letters. Moreover, The University Grants Commission (UGC) requested the Sangai University, Manipur relentlessly to share the required information for the inspection process via official letters. Nevertheless, The University failed to provide the asked information.
Thus, UGC issued a notice vide “F. No. 8-19/2015 (CPP-I/PU) dated 19.12.2023.” The University was offered a chance to show cause regarding the reason why the UGC should not make a move against the Sangai International University to eliminate its name from the list of of the recognized universities of Manipur maintained by the UGC under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.
In Addition, a copy of the show cause notice was shared to the Department of Higher Education, Government of Manipur, with the solicitation that it make a prompt move and give a clarification, as per the UGC. They expressed that still, they still couldn’t seem to get a reaction from the university, as well as any decision from the Manipur government. In the meantime, according to a report by the Imphal Free Press, Sangai International College, which is headquartered in rented premises on Rengkai Road in Churachandpur, has been executing managerial undertakings without the presence of significant University Officials, for example- the vice chancellor and the registrar.
As per certain media reports, up to five understudies have recorded requests and complaints with the Manipur Information Commission about the university’s inability to conform to RTI applications in regards to the release of the completion certificates, data about the university’s programmes, and other information to understudies signed up for different Bachelors and Masters programmes at University.
Therefore, a notice has been issued by the UGC which states that “Sangai International University, Churachandpur, Manipur has been eliminated from the list of UGC’s Universities under Segment 2(f) of UGC Act, 1956.” Further, it added, “Without UGC endorsement, any degree given/granted by the Sangai College, Manipur will not be perceived/legitimate with the objective of higher education and employment”.
