UGC Orders Higher Education Institutions to Fill Empty Seats and Update Recruitment Status on the Official Portal

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has reaffirmed its invitation to all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), including deemed institutions, universities, and colleges, to take significant action to guarantee that open jobs in their affiliated colleges and universities be filled as soon as possible. The recruitment process’s status must be posted by 31st July 2024, at the latest, on the University Activity Monitoring Portal (UGC) at ugc.ac.in/uamp.

The UGC has been requesting the HEIs to help in faculty recruitment at universities, colleges, and other institutions recognized as universities through previous letters. “You will appreciate that faculty members are the pillars of all academic processes and share the crucial responsibility” to establish curriculum relevant to each program, effectively implement teaching-learning, and oversee the evaluation process, according to its earlier letter, dated 21st November 2021. They are the ones who make the institution a good place to learn and shape students into contributing members of society. The calibre of faculty participation is the primary driver of success in higher education institutions.

Priority attention must be given to addressing the serious problem of the faculty shortage in HEIS. 25–40% of faculty positions in HEIs are thought to be unfilled nationally at this time. Translating this into a teacher-to-student ratio that is balanced, thousands of faculty members must be hired immediately.
