Uttar Pradesh: Aadhar Card No Longer Accepted as Birth Certificate
The Aadhaar Cards will not be accepted as proof of date of birth in Uttar Pradesh. As per instructions issued by the Planning Department of Uttar Pradesh, an Aadhaar Card cannot be used as valid proof of Date of Birth. This means that now people cannot use their Aadhaar Card to get birth certificates. This decision aims at preventing the misuse of Aadhaar details to obtain fake birth certificates for illegal purposes.
Even though the UIDAI in its letter clarified that the Aadhaar Card is not a valid proof of date of birth, many departments in Uttar Pradesh still accept it as a birth-related document. The Planning Department has directed all the departments of Uttar Pradesh not to accept the Aadhaar Card as a birth certificate or for any birth-related document attached to it. The order was issued by Amit Singh Bansal, Special Secretary in the Planning Department.
The order is also followed by the decision of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take strict action against the illegal immigrants.
Apart from Uttar Pradesh, the Maharashtra Government also issued an order where it said that the Aadhaar Card will not be considered as a document for making a delayed birth certificate and all the birth certificates made only through the Aadhaar Card after the Birth and Deaths Registration (Amendment) Act, 2023, will be cancelled. Necessary actions will be taken against the officers who have been involved in issuing these certificates.
