Uttar Pradesh Records Rs. 20,000 Crore Increase in Tax Collection, Led by GST and VAT
The Uttar Pradesh government’s tax collections for the financial year 2024-25 increased by Rs. 19,958.84 crore compared to the collections in 2023-24.
According to the initial data released by the Uttar Pradesh government on Friday, Goods and Services Tax (GST) and VAT (Value Added Tax) continue to be the biggest sources of tax revenue for the state government.
The Uttar Pradesh government collected more than half of its tax revenue from GST and VAT in 2024-25. Excise was the second biggest source of income, followed by stamps and registration.
In total, the state collected Rs. 2,13,287.94 crore in taxes during 2024-25, compared to Rs. 1,93,329.10 crore in 2023-24.
Out of the total tax collection of Rs. 2,13,287.94 crore (which is 78.6% of the target), the revenue from state taxes was Rs. 1,14,631.68 crore (73% of the target). This included Rs. 82,535.14 crore from GST (72.2% of the target) and Rs. 32,096.54 crore from VAT (75.1% of the target), as per the initial official data.
The state government’s revenue from excise, which is the second highest source of tax, was Rs. 52,574.52 crore (90.2% of the target), while stamps and registration brought in Rs. 30,205.97 crore (84.7% of the target), according to a press statement by Finance Minister Suresh Khanna.
The collections from the transport department stood at Rs. 11,499.01 crore (92% of the target). The energy department collected Rs. 3,038.22 crore (52.6% of the target), and the revenue from land was Rs. 413.84 crore (48% of the target).
The state government also collected non-tax revenue, which includes income from mining and minerals, amounting to Rs. 13,354.45 crore (54.7% of the target). This was 7% higher than the previous year’s non-tax revenue collections.
