WhatsApp Is Introducing the Locked Chats Feature to Increase Security
Concerned users of WhatsApp, listen up! Giving you more control over your communications, WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, is introducing a new security feature. A further level of security for your most private talks is provided by the “Locked Chats” feature, which Android beta testers are now testing.
“In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.8.4 update, we announced that WhatsApp was working on a locked chats feature for linked devices,” WABetaInfo notes about the functionality. The purpose of this function is to provide users with an extra level of privacy for their chats, guaranteeing that their private talks remain safe on all connected devices.
“It seems that WhatsApp is now testing this feature with a small number of users, indicating that a larger rollout is planned for the upcoming weeks. We found that WhatsApp is currently rolling out the feature to lock chats from associated devices, thanks to the most recent WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.11.9 update, which is accessible on the Google Play Store,” it continues.
WhatsApp used to allow users to lock their whole app with a fingerprint or passcode. It meant that without the extra security step, even someone who unlocked your phone could not view your WhatsApp messages. This is expanded upon using the Locked Chats function.
Users can opt to lock particular conversations within the app using this new functionality. To access those particular conversations, you must generate a special PIN or use fingerprint or face unlock. You cannot examine the contents of your hidden chats, even if someone has access to WhatsApp and your phone is unlocked.
According to WABetaInfo, “we think that putting this feature on connected devices will further enhance user convenience and privacy.” WhatsApp guarantees a high degree of secrecy and lowers the possibility of unintentional exposure by enabling users to keep their private discussions apart from the chat list.
Furthermore, by using a secret code, closed chats are consistently synchronized across all devices. Users can now be sure that their private discussions will always be concealed from prying eyes across all of their mobile devices thanks to the addition of closed chats functionality for linked devices, the statement continues.
Only a select group of Android beta testers using WhatsApp version 2.24.11.9 are able to access the Locked Chats functionality at this time. However, according to sources, a more extensive deployment that includes all Android users and maybe iPhone users is anticipated in the upcoming weeks.
WhatsApp is committed to protecting user privacy, as evidenced by the Locked Chats feature. Users now have a more secure messaging experience thanks to the comprehensive control over chat security that is offered.
