Will TAR Deadline for AY 2026-27 Be Extended Beyond September 30? Here's Experts' Advise :

September 30 TAR filing deadline for the AY 2026-27 is approaching fast; here's experts' advise for taxpayers subject to their account audit.
Sept 30 Tax Audit Report Filing Due Date Approaching

The deadline to file the tax audit report (TAR) for the Assessment Year 2026-27, i.e., September 30, 2026, is swiftly approaching. However, the government has not made any extension to the due date officially. Several Chartered Accountant (CA) associations have sent representations to the finance ministry, requesting an extended time limit.
In these representations, associations have highlighted key issues such as workload involved in completing audits, reconciliation issues, delays in getting audit-related information and utilities and more, for seeking due date extension.
September 30 is the due date to file the tax audit report for taxpayers who are required to get their accounts audited, and no changes will be made to this deadline unless the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) makes any official announcement. Experts suggest taxpayers not wait for an extension; instead, try completing the filing process well before the deadline.
Now, the biggest question that is arising in most of the taxpayers' minds is, "Will the government further extend the September 30 TAR deadline?"
Last year, the CBDT had extended the due date for Tax Audit Report (TAR) filing from September 30, 2025,, to October 31, 2025, for the Financial Year 2024-25. However, it is not necessary for the government to extend the due date this year either.
In such a situation, the deadline is fast approaching; the taxpayers whose accounts are subject to audit should try to close all pending gaps instead of awaiting a deadline extension. Additionally, taxpayers are advised to wait until the final day to complete the filing process, as merely uploading the audit report is not the end of the process. The report is filed electronically by a chartered accountant (CA); thereafter, the taxpayer approves it through their income-tax e-filing account. Consequently, taxpayers should complete the filing process well before the deadline.
