You may have an E-Passport in FY 2022-22: Read what Govt is Planning

The government is planning to issue e-passports to citizens starting the financial year 2022-23. Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan stated this information in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Muraleedharan was questioned in the upper house of Parliament about the government’s proposal to issue e-passports in 2022 and its details.

“Critical information from the passport will be printed on the datasheet and stored in the chip. In International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) document 9303, the properties of the document and the chip are stated “According to an ANI report, Muraleedharan remarked

Muraleedharan further stated that the Ministry of External Affairs has delegated technical responsibility for the issuing of e-passports to the National Informatics Centre (NIC).

The e-passport, according to the minister, will be a hybrid paper and electronic passport with an RFID chip implanted in the back cover and an antenna embedded as an inlay.
