A big scam has been happening recently where private GST details of traders are being sold online. This illegal work is being done by a group called “Data Solution” from cities like Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Noida.

The Surat Chartered Accountants Association has written a letter to the finance minister to take actions regarding this scam. They said that the GST data like GSTR-1 of traders are being sold for Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 10,000. Bigger data packages with GSTR-2B, 3B and e-Way Bills are being sold for Rs. 15,000 for three months.

These data sellers are not even hiding or doing these things behind the walls. They work from office-like places and sell the information in bulk to people all over the country. They offer different types of data according to the wants of the buyers. The price of data starts from Rs. 5,000 for simple data and going up to Rs. 25,000 for full business details like sales, purchases, and transport bills.

This issue started to get even worse after a WhatsApp chat between a trader and a data broker was leaked. In that chat, it showed that GST data is being sold like a normal product, including special packages with e-Way Bill details.

The CA Association warned that this is a serious danger to fair business. Anyone can easily buy this data and copy someone else’s business model. They said this is not just about privacy, but it could harm honest business practices and increase unfair competition.

They also shared that some businessmen are now purchasing this stolen data to beat their rivals. The worse is that even new traders are buying GST data before setting up shops in a new city.

The association said they have proof of the data being sold and want quick and strong action from the Central Government. They believe if this continues, people will lose trust in the GST system, which was made to be simple and helpful.
