Zomato to Rebrand as Eternal Limited; Company reacts to Confusion around Rebranding The board of directors of Zomato Limited recently approved a resolution to change the name of the company to "Eternal Limited." This resolution, taken on February 6, 2025, shows strategic intent by changing the corporate identity while continuing the brand name "Zomato" for its well-known food aggregator services. The change in name will demand modifications in the Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association of the company. But this change, in itself, is followed by a line-up of approvals by various authorities like shareholders of the company, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and others. The board has also approved a postal ballot process, which will be sent to the shareholders and the stock exchanges for their approval of the proposed name change and the resultant statutory changes. The company has updated the information on its official website, and stakeholders and the public are made aware of this change. While changing its corporate identity, the company made sure that the core services provided under the brand name "Zomato" would remain unchanged. However, social media users were left confused by the company's rebranding, so Zomato shared a post on Twitter saying, "Guys, Eternal is the parent company - the app will remain Zomato" along with three sobbing face emojis. Zomato's post was in response to a social media user's question, "Bhai, yeh Eternal kya hai?" Zomato bandh kar diya kya? "Mera refund pending hai!" This change is suited to the dynamic strategic goals of the company and maintains significant brand recognition for the food delivery services of Zomato.
