CBI detained an assistant sub-inspector and a head constable of the Chandigarh police for allegedly requesting and receiving a Rs 50000 bribe from a man in exchange for not filing a rape case against him.

2 Chandigarh Policemen arrested by CBI for Demanding Rs.50000 Bribe
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a head constable (HC) of the Chandigarh police on Tuesday night for allegedly requesting and receiving a Rs 50000 bribe from a man in exchange for not filing a rape case against him.
ASI Randeep Singh and HC Ravinder Singh Rana have been named as the accused cops. According to sources, CBI agents apprehended Rana at his home in Sector 23, while Singh was apprehended at the Sector 24 police station.
Rana was posted at the Sector 11 police station and Singh at the Sector 24 police post.
After Ranjeet Singh, a resident of Dhanas village, filed a FIR against the cops, they were detained under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988, and Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Ranjeet Singh claimed in his complaint that two police officers informed him that they had received a rape accusation against him and that he was being threatened with being implicated in the investigation if he did not pay up. He also revealed to CBI agents that Rana was his tenant a few months back.
Meanwhile, Rana’s relatives accused CBI officials of abusing him at his home in Sector 23 on Tuesday night. They have filed a police report at the Sector 23 police station.
The accused cops appeared in a local CBI court on today.
