RBI to issue Notes of Rs.10 and Rs.500 bearing Signature of Guv Malhotra
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Friday that it will soon issue Rs.10 and Rs.500 banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, each bearing the signature of Governor Sanjay Malhotra. The central bank stated that the design of these notes is identical to that of the Rs.10 and Rs.500 banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series.
All previous Rs.10 banknotes issued by the Reserve Bank shall remain legal tender.
In addition, all banknotes in the denomination of Rs.500 in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series previously issued by the central bank shall remain legal currency.
Last month, the RBI announced the issuance of banknotes in the denominations of Rs.100 and Rs.200, each bearing Governor Malhotra’s signature.
Malhotra took over as RBI Governor in December 2024, succeeding Shaktikanta Das, who left office after serving an extended tenure.
