2 Railway Officials arrested by CBI for Bribery case; More than Rupees One Crore Recovered during search The Northeast Frontier Railway's Deputy Chief Engineer, Senior Section Engineer (SSE), and Contractor of a private company based in Guwahati (Assam) have all been detained by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with an 8 lakh rupee bribery (approx.). Four Northeast Frontier Railway executives, as well as a private company's contractor and staff, are the targets of a case that the CBI has filed. It was claimed that the aforementioned public employees conspired with private individuals to give unfair advantages to private contractors in the contract awarding process, measurement book preparation, running account bill processing, early payment release against inflated and manipulated bills for the ongoing construction work at the North East Frontier Railway, and early payment release for security deposits and bank guarantees. The CBI set up a trap and the aforementioned SSE, Silchar (Assam), was apprehended while taking a bribe of Rs. 8 lakh from a private company employee. Around 19 places were searched, including Assam, Imphal, Delhi, Bihar, and Haryana, at the homes of the accused and others, resulting in the recovery of Rs. 1.02 crore (approx.). All of the apprehended suspects were brought before the appropriate court. The SSE is on a three-day transit remand while the Deputy Chief Engineer and the aforementioned Contractor are being held in police custody for five days.
