Government notifies Agreement and Protocol between India and Qatar [Read Notification]

The Ministry of Finance has notified Agreement and Protocol between the Republic of India and the State of Qatar for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.

The provisions of the Agreement and Protocol shall have effect in India in respect of income arising on or after first day of the fiscal year immediately following the calendar year in which the Agreement and Protocol enter into force.

This agreement has been made for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and with a view to promoting economic cooperation between the two countries.

The intend is to eliminate the double taxation with respect to the taxes covered by this Agreement without creating opportunities for non-taxation or reduced taxation through tax evasion or avoidance (including through treaty-shopping arrangements aimed at obtaining reliefs provided in this agreement for the indirect benefit of residents of third jurisdictions)
