248 Central Public Sector Enterprises Operating in 2021-22

The Minister of State for Finance DR. Bhagwat Karad stated that 248 Central Public Sector Enterprises Operating in 2021-22.

The Question raised in Lok Sabha:

Will the Minister of FINANCE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government acknowledges the fact that establishment of any industry helps in the prosperity of the area around it as it generates employment and other business activities and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the number of Central PSUs established during the last ten years across the country;

(c) the number of such industry established in Odisha during the same period;

(d) whether the Government has any plans to set up new industry in Odisha; and

(e) the number of such companies privatised or in the process of privatisation?

Replied by Minister of State for Finance DR. Bhagwat Karad:

a) The employment generation in CPSEs depends upon the prevailing business conditions & requirements, while also taking into account others factors such as future operations, expansion/ investment plan, retirements etc. CPSEs take steps in this regard in accordance with the approved policies on recruitment

b) As per Public Enterprises Survey, the number of operating Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) in 2011-12 was 225 and in 2021-22 is 248.

c) The number of CPSEs having registered office in Orissa in 2011-12 was 4 and in 2021-22 is 5.

d) CPSEs function under the administrative control of respective Ministries/Departments. Any decision to set up new CPSEs is taken by the sectoral line Ministries/Departments after taking into consideration the needs and commercial viability and any extant policy of the Government.

e) Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) which was incorporated in 1982 and headquartered in Odisha has been privatised.
