2Cr Bank Locker of Chartered Accountant Found Missing in Faridabad; SBI Allegedly Allots It to Another Customer
In a recent shocking case, a chartered accountant‘s locker in the State Bank of India (SBI), Faridabad, was allegedly found missing. The locker reportedly had gold, silver, and other valuables worth Rs 2 crore, but the bank official said that no such locker was registered.
The incident happened at the SBI branch located in the Sector 15 market, Faridabad. The chartered accountant, DC Garg’s wife, visited the bank to operate the locker. However, she was told that there was no locker at the bank’s branch, even though the annual locker fee had been regularly deducted from Garg’s bank account until a year ago.
When the chartered accountant came to know about this, he and his family members reached the bank and asked the officials about his locker. However, the bank staff allegedly informed them that no such locker was registered in Garg’s name.
When Garg claimed that he still had the original locker key, the bank officials said that the locker number had been given to another customer. The bank officials suggested to Garg that he might have surrendered the locker earlier. However, Garg denied this and said that surrendering a locker requires paperwork and returning the original key, which was still with him.
As per the complaint, the locker belonged to Garg and had been operated by his family for around 12 years. He had taken the locker in 2014, and the bank regularly deducted the annual fee of Rs 2,360. He accused the bank of issuing a duplicate key of his locker to some other customer, who is now claimed to be the locker holder.
Garg claimed that the locker had around 1.25 kg of gold bars, nearly 3 kg of silver, and other valuables. He accused the bank officials of breaking the locker and re-allotting the locker to Vikas Chauhan. He alleged that the bank officials are involved in the disappearance of his locker. Garg added that he does not know when the locker was broken or when the valuables went missing.
He had registered a complaint with the SBI headquarters and the bank’s chairman, after which the senior bank officials are conducting an investigation. They have also filed a police complaint but have not received a satisfactory response.
Garg’s associate, Satish Mittal, also alleged that the bank’s officials are involved in this disappearance. He said if bank employees were not involved, there was no reason to suppress the issue instead of doing a transparent investigation.
The allegations against the bank have raised serious concerns about the safety of customers’ valuables kept in bank lockers.
