3 Persons arrested with Rs.50 lakh Cash, Cops point to Hawala Links
Officials claimed on Tuesday that three people were apprehended after Rs 50 lakh in cash was discovered in their hands during a search in Sector 18.
According to DCP (Noida) Harish Chandar, a squad lead by ACP-1 Rajneesh Verma apprehended the three males from a Swift Dzire outside a hotel in Sector 27 and confiscated a bag containing the cash. He said that the recovered funds were intended for a hawala transaction.
The accused were to meet at a restaurant in Sector 18 and transfer over the money to a Delhi-based hawala operator in exchange for an incentive, according to the DCP.
According to preliminary investigations, the money belongs to Sanjeev Kumar Nit, a Patna resident who owns a transport company. Sanjeev had travelled to Delhi with one Kumar Aryan (38), a Bihar native, for the deal, but left before the authorities apprehended the duo. The two other men detained, Arvind Kumar (45) and Vijay (43), both from Delhi, are agents who came to execute the purchase on behalf of the hawala operator, according to police.
"A woman was supposed to broker the arrangement between the two sides. Aryan told cops that he met the woman through a Facebook page," Verma added.
Meanwhile, police think four more persons are involved in the nexus and have organised a special unit to apprehend the gang's five members.
An FIR has been issued against the three detained at Sector 20 police station under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), and 120B (criminal conspiracy), while the Income Tax agency is conducting searches at several locations to break the link.
