The Minister of State for Finance Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad in a written reply to a question raised in Lok Sabha said that 31 Central Public Sector Enterprises made continuous losses from 2019-20 to 2021-22.

The Minister Shri Ganthairiam S and Shri Haji Fazlur Rehman raised the following questions in Lok Sabha:

Replied by Minister of State for Finance Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad:

(a) As per information available in the Public Enterprises Survey 2021-22, there are 31 Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) which have incurred losses continuously for three years from 2019-20 to 2021-22. The details of loss incurred by each CPSE are given in Annexure.

(b) and (c) The reasons of losses differ from CPSE to CPSE. Enterprise specific measures for their turnaround or otherwise are taken by the respective Boards and Administrative Ministries/Departments having jurisdiction over the CPSEs concerned. These, inter alia, include business restructuring, formation of joint ventures, modernization and improved marketing strategies. Government has also notified the New Public Sector Enterprise (“PSE”) Policy in February, 2021 as per which CPSEs have been classified in Strategic and Non-Strategic sectors based on certain criteria. The CPSEs are, therefore, to be dealt according to the provisions of the New PSE Policy only.
