37kg Silver jewellery worth ₹17 lakh seized: Information given to Income Tax
Bhopal Government Railway Police (GRP) seized 37.772 kg of silver jewellery worth Rs. 17 lakh from a person during a special vehicle checking drive at Bhopal railway station. The Income Tax Department has received information about the matter. Further action will be taken by the Income Tax Department.
In view of the security arrangements to prevent illegal transportation of cash, drugs, gold and silver and smuggling of illicit liquor during the upcoming assembly elections, a special vehicle checking campaign is being conducted across the state.
Zaheer Khan (SHO GRP, Bhopal) said that on the instructions of Hitesh Chaudhary (SP, Rail) an intensive checking drive is being conducted at all the railway stations. On Thursday afternoon, GRP and RPF staff stopped a suspicious person while checking near platform no. 1. He was carrying a trolley bag and a backpack. The person was trying to get out of the station while avoiding the eyes of the police.
During interrogation, he introduced himself as Mohan Singh Maran, 32, who lives in Shivani Homes Bypass Road, Karond in Nishatpura. When interrogated about the items kept inside the backpack and trolley bag, he could not give any valid answer. When officers brought the bags to the police station and opened them, a huge quantity of silver anklets was found inside them. No valid receipt of any jewellery was found with Mohan, hence the police seized it and the quantity is more than 37 kg.
The information was given to the Income Tax Department team and they reached the spot. In the initial inquiry, it was revealed that the said silver was brought from Mathura to Bhopal. However, during the search, the man was found to have a platform ticket instead of a journey ticket.
Likewise, during checking by GRP Bhopal at the railway station, illegal foreign liquor worth Rs. 24,000 was seized from a man resident in Ashoka Garden. The accused had brought the liquor from Haryana to Bhopal. GRP and RPF team were checking on the new over bridge. During the operation, the team stopped a man, who looked suspicious. On enquiry, he revealed his name as Satyapal Kukreja, 44, a resident of Ranipura in Ashoka Garden. He hails from Datia.
On searching the bag, he was found carrying 12 bottles of branded foreign liquor. On enquiry, the accused said that he had brought the liquor from Faridabad, Haryana. The police have seized the illegal liquor worth Rs. 24,000. Action has been taken against the accused under the Excise Act.
