61.5 kg gold concealed in Triangle Valves seized by DRI at IGI Airport On the 11th of May 2022, officers from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized an air cargo consignment at Delhi Air Cargo Complex in a covert intelligence operation code-named "Golden Tap," on suspicion of smuggled gold concealed therein. The shipment, which was stated to contain Triangle Valves, originated in Guangzhou, China, and landed at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on a Japan Airlines flight. Following a careful and lengthy investigation that lasted until early Thursday morning, a considerable number of the imported triangular valves were discovered to contain 24 carat gold. The elaborate hiding approach, which required a laborious and time-consuming extraction operation, would have gone undetected if not for the precise intelligence obtained by DRI officers. Following a thorough investigation, DRI investigators were able to recover 61.5 kg of gold with a market value of Rs.32.5 crore from the shipment. The discovered gold, which was confirmed to be 99 percent pure, was seized. This discovery follows other recent gold seizures by the agency from air cargo and courier consignments. These include seizures of 11 kg of gold worth more than Rs.5.88 crore in Lucknow and Mumbai in May 2022, as well as previous seizures of 16.79 kg gold worth Rs.8 crore from a courier consignment in July 2021, followed by the seizure of 80.13 kg gold worth Rs.39.31 crore from an air cargo consignment in November 2021, both in New Delhi. These seizures bolster DRI's ability to detect such complex ways of concealment and serve as a deterrence to anyone intending to undermine India's economic borders. DRI is committed to continuing its unrelenting pursuit of the perpetrators of these crimes.
