A feature phone version of UPI 123Pay that allows users to make payments without using the internet has been Launched by The Reserve Bank of India and the National Payment Corporation of India.
UPI123PAY will include all of the necessary smartphone functionalities for feature phones. This project will raise the bar for digital payments, paving the road for a cashless economy.
RBI governor, Shaktikanta Das said, “Two landmar initiatives are being launched is UPI123Pay and DigiSaathi.“
With the 123PAY feature, you don’t need to be connected to the internet to do business online. This service can also be used in Various Indian languages.
With the new service, both people who have smartphones and people who have older phones can now easily do business online.
Make sure the user links his or her bank account with the feature phone before he or she can start to pay for the service.
Further, if he or she wants to use his or her debit card, he or she will need to set a UPI PIN.
When UPI PIN is set, the user can use his or her feature phone to do the same things as someone who has a smart phone does.
Calling the IVR number is the first step for people who have feature phones. They’ll need to choose a phone based on the service they need. This could be money transfers or LPG gas refills, mobile recharge, balance check, FasTag recharge etc.
Select the Phone number of the person to whom you want to send money, then enter the amount and UPI PIN.
A customer can use an app-based payment method or a missed call payment method to pay for something.
He or she can also use a voice-based method to pay for things online.
UPI123pay will materially improve the options for such users to access UPI. UPI123Pay includes four distinct options as below:
The 24×7 Helpline – ‘DigiSaathi’ – provides a channel to obtain help on the entire gamut of digital payments. Automated responses on information related to digital payment products and services are available in Hindi and English through multiple options like – (a) toll-free number (1800-891-3333), (b) a short code (14431), (c) website – www.digisaathi.info, and chatbots. DigiSaathi will assist users with their queries on digital payments via website & chatbot facility and through toll-free calls where user can dial or call out the options / products for which the information is required. More interactive options and language choices shall be enabled going forward.
The initiatives above are meant to speed up the adoption of digital technology in India by creating a more diverse and inclusive ecosystem that can be used by more people.
