GST Officials Arrests Cosmetics Shop Owner for Evading Rs 10.64-Crore GST Duty

The State Goods and Services Tax (GST) department officials arrested a cosmetic and beauty products shop owner on Thursday for allegedly evading GST duty to the tune of Rs 10.64 crore in sales of beauty products worth Rs 63.46 crore.

The officials arrested N R Beauty World shop owner Munavvar Ismail Memon, a Surat resident, and have begun an investigation.

Acting on a tip, officials from the State GST Economic Offence Wing raided the premises of N R Beauty World, N R Jewelers, N R Bangles, and N R Fit in Shop in Surat city a few days ago.

The officials also raided the firm’s Godown and the residences of the owner and his business partners.

During the raids, the officials claimed to have discovered that the owner of N R Beauty World had mis-declared the sales figures on his books, thereby evading the GST duty. Aside from that, the officials discovered undisclosed sales figures from the software of the computer seized from the N R Beauty world shop.

Following an examination of the facts, the officials discovered GST duty evasion to the tune of Rs 10.64 crore in the sale of beauty products worth Rs 63.46 crore.
