CBSE Class 12 Revised History Syllabus 2022-23

CBSE Class 12 History Syllabus: History is one of the most important disciplines in school education. It is the study of the past, which helps us to understand our present and shape our future. It promotes the acquisition and understanding of historical knowledge in depth across cultures. The course of history in senior secondary classes is to enable students to know that history is a critical discipline, a process of inquiry, and a way of knowing about the past rather than just a collection of facts.

In class XII the focus will shift to a detailed study of some themes in ancient, medieval, and modern Indian history. The syllabus would help students to understand the process through which historians write history, by choosing and assembling different types of evidence, and by reading their source material critically. The syllabus is divided into 3 parts:

1. Themes in Indian History Part-I (25 Marks)
2. Themes in Indian History Part-II (25 Marks)
3. Themes in Indian History Part-III (25 Marks)

Theory: 80 Marks
Practical: 20 Marks
Time: 3 Hours

PROJECT WORK (20 Marks)

This project will help students to develop skill to gather data from a variety of sources, investigate different viewpoints and arrive at logical conclusions. It will also help them understand contemporary issues in context to our past.

Project Work has broadly the following phases:

• Synopsis/ Initiation (6 Marks)
• Data Collection (5 Marks)
• Data Analysis/ Interpretation, and Conclusion. (5 Marks)

Viva-voce​​​​​​​ (4 Marks)

• At the end, each student will present their research work in the Project File to the External and Internal examiner.
• The questions would be asked from the Research Work/ Project File of the student.
