The Deadline for filing income tax returns for the Financial Year 2022-2023 will not be extended, the Central Government clarified.

“The Central Government is not considering extending the deadline for filing income tax returns“, according to Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj, as it anticipates that the majority of reports will be received by the due date of July 31.

More than 2 crore Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the AY 2022–23 have been received, the income tax department announced on Wednesday. For salaried taxpayers and non-auditable cases, the deadline to submit an annual ITR is July 31, 2022.

“More than 2 crore Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the AY 2022–23 have been submitted on the Income Tax e-filing Website. We kindly request that you submit your ITR as soon as possible, if you haven’t already,” the department posted a few days ago on its official Twitter account.

Tarun Bajaj stated, “People believed that extending dates was the new norm. Consequently, they were originally a little hesitant to fill out the forms, but now we receive between 15 lakh and 18 lakh returns every day. This will marginally increase to between 25 and 30 lakh returns.”

“Daily return filings increased from 50,000 to 20 lakh from the previous 50,000. In the coming days, I’m sure there will be a rise in returns as more people submit their forms”, He told.
